Get The Most Out Of Your Backyard This Summer

As Memorial Day approaches, we tend to turn our sights on how we’re going to spend the carefree time we have during the summer months.  Some people plan vacations or head down the shore, while others are happy to simply savor unhurried time spent with family and friends right at home.

This summer, why not think about planning a stay-cation instead of dumping a wad of money on a pricey hotel or shore house?  Think about the fun you can have with family and friends as you sit outside at night on your patio or gather round an outdoor fireplace or firepit on a chilly night.  If you’re lucky enough to already have an outdoor kitchen, you can cook and dine al fresco during this respite from the daily grind – or you can make outdoor cooking a regular habit throughout the season.

Don’t have the backyard of your dreams?  Consider this.  If you add up the money you would spend on a week’s vacation with your family, you can likely turn your ho-hum backyard into something spectacular.  Think about spiffing up your landscaping, adding an interesting hardscape feature, creating a fully functional yet beautiful outdoor kitchen or designing the oasis of your dreams.  Of course, your dreams may be limited by your budget, but there is a lot you can do if you set aside what you would spend on a frivolous vacation and use it towards something that you can enjoy over and over again, not only throughout the summer but for years to come.

If you already know what you want, you’re well ahead of the game.  If you’re not sure what you want to do, it’s best to start looking around.  Peruse the neighborhood to see what catches your eye, go online to find interesting designs and materials or visit the local nursery or home improvement store to get inspired.  It’s also a good idea to sit down with a professional landscaping or masonry expert to discuss your desires, your budgets and your ideas.  This will give you a better idea of what you can do within the constraints of your space and your wallet.  Professionals are the best place to start for inspiring ideas that can transform your outdoor space.
